The Exact Path Length Problem

چکیده
We study a problem related to finding shortest paths in weighted graphs. We ask whether or not there is a path between two nodes that has a given total cost k. The edge weights of the graph can be both positive and negative integers or even integer vectors. We show that many variants of this problem are NP-complete. We develop a pseudo-polynomial algorithm for (both positive and negative) integer weights. The running time of this algorithm is O W 2n3 + k min k W n2 , where n is the number of nodes in the graph, W is the largest absolute value of any edge weight, and k is the target cost. The algorithm is based on preprocessing the graph with a relaxation algorithm to eliminate the effects of weight sign alternations along a path. This preprocessing stage is applicable to other problems as well. For example, we show how to find the minimum absolute cost of any path between two given nodes in a graph with integer weights in O W 2n3 time. 2002 Elsevier Science

The Robot Motion Planning (RMP) problem deals with finding a collision-free start-to-goal path for a robot navigating among workspace obstacles. Such a problem is also encountered in path planning of intelligent vehicles and Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs). In terms of kinematic constraints, the RMP problem can be categorized into two groups of Holonomic and Nonholonomic problems. In the first...
متن کاملShortest Path Problem with Gamma Probability Distribution Arc Length
We propose a dynamic program to find the shortest path in a network having gamma probability distributions as arc lengths. Two operators of sum and comparison need to be adapted for the proposed dynamic program. Convolution approach is used to sum two gamma probability distributions being employed in the dynamic program.

Urban transportation is one of the most important issues of urban life especially in big cities. Urban development, and subsequently the increase of routes and communications, make the role of transportation science more pronounced. The shortest path problem in a network is one of the most basic network analysis issues. In fact, finding answers to this question is necessity for higher level ana...

Being one of the major research fields in the robotics discipline, the robot motion planning problem deals with finding an obstacle-free start-to-goal path for a robot navigating among workspace obstacles. Such a problem is also encountered in path planning of intelligent vehicles and Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs). Traditional (exact) algorithms have failed to solve the problem effectively...
متن کاملExact algorithms for partial curve matching via the Fréchet distance
Curve matching is a fundamental problem that occurs in many applications. In this paper, we study the problem of measuring partial similarity between curves. Specifically, given two curves, we wish to maximize the total length of subcurves that are close to each other, where closeness is measured by the Fréchet distance, a common distance measure for curves. The resulting maximal length is call...
متن کاملStochastic Shortest Paths Via Quasi-convex Maximization
We consider the problem of finding shortest paths in a graph with independent randomly distributed edge lengths. Our goal is to maximize the probability that the path length does not exceed a given threshold value (deadline). We give a surprising exact n n) algorithm for the case of normally distributed edge lengths, which is based on quasi-convex maximization. We then prove average and smoothe...
